How To Enter Your Main Speaker Parameter Data for the
SmartSub Integrator's SmartMatch Settings

The SC1 SmartSub Integrator provides provides near-perfect integration with any main speakers, regardless of brand. It can be used both in augment mode, where the subwoofer extends the bass response of the main speakers, and in crossover mode. In crossover mode the built-in high pass filter transfers bass energy away from the main speakers and redirects it to the subwoofer so that the main speakers are able to play louder.

Step 1: Finding Your Main Speaker's Data
Regardless of which mode you choose, four parameters about your main speakers need to be entered into the Controller to integrate your main speakers with the subwoofer. Those parameters are: Speaker Type, Low Frequency Limit, Sensitivity, and Damping. This information may be found in your main speaker's owner information. If you do not know these four pieces of information, we have a searchable database at www.thielaudio.com/sub_setup to help you find these four parameters.

Main Speaker Parameters

Type [Sealed or Reflex]
Sealed should be selected if the main speakers are a sealed or "closed" design. Reflex should be selected if the main speakers are a ported or passive radiator design.

Low Frequency Limit [in Hz, from 20 to 90]
This parameter should be set to the main speaker's "minus 3 dB" bass extension specification. This can usually be obtained from the speaker's owner information or from the manufacturer.

Sensitivity [in dB from 83 to 99]
This parameter should be set to the main speaker's sensitivity (or "efficiency") specification (output level in dB with a 2.83 volt input and at a 1 meter distance). This can usually be obtained from the speaker's owner information or from the manufacturer.

Damping [from .5 to .9]
This parameter should be set to the main speaker's "Q" specification. It is not a critical setting and excellent results can be obtained by using a setting of .8 for sealed speakers and .7 for reflex speakers.

STEP 2: Now I have my four parameters. How do I enter them into the Integrator?

The SmartSub Integrator is adjusted using the four buttons at the right side of the front panel.

Type: First select the Main Speaker Parameter by pressing the Select Prev or Select Next button repeatedly until the light to the left of "Type" for the Main Speakers parameter is on. Select either the Sealed or Reflex by pressing the Increase or Decrease buttons.

Low Frequency Limit: Press the Select Prev or Select Next button until the light to the left of "Low Frequency Limit" for the Main Speakers parameter is on. The current setting will be shown in the numerical display and pressing the Increase or Decrease buttons will change the setting.

Sensitivity: Press the Select Prev or Select Next button until the light to the left of "Sensitivity" for the Main Speakers parameter is on. The current setting will be shown in the numerical display and pressing the Increase or Decrease buttons will change the setting.

Damping: Press the Select Prev or Select Next button until the light to the left of "Damping" for the Main Speakers parameter is on. The current setting will be shown in the numerical display and pressing the Increase or Decrease buttons will change the setting.

To store the data you just entered into one of the 6 presets, press the Store Preset button which will cause the display to flash "P1." Use the Increase and Decrease buttons to select which preset, from P1 to P6, in which you wish to store the current settings. When the desired number is displayed, press the Store Preset button again to complete the save. The display will stop flashing.
